Let's find out together what parental education is.

Parental education is an alternative form of education to public and private schooling. As the word itself emphasises, this form of education, also known as homeschooling, presupposes that parents are in charge of their children's education and sometimes take care of it themselves.
An alternative form of education provided for by law
Article 30 of the Italian Constitution protects the possibility for parents to decide how to manage their children's education, opting for schooling or a form of parental education. Obviously, as Article 34 of the Constitution states, education remains compulsory, while the form of provision provides more possibilities. International law also makes a statement on this issue, guaranteeing the freedom of parents to choose the form of education for their children (Art. 26 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Art. 16 Universal Declaration of Human Rights).
A world of useful resources thanks to technology
The digital age has certainly facilitated the spread of forms of education other than schooling. Parents can access up-to-date, new and stimulating tools and content for their children. Of course, parents who decide to go the homeschooling route must demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills to do so. At the end of the school year, the children will take a state exam to monitor and evaluate the level achieved.
Some forms of parent education you already know about
You may not have heard the term parental education before, but you certainly know some forms. Rudolf Steiner, Maria Montessori, John Holt, Ivan Illic, Arno Stern, are some of the best known forms of parent education, which differ in their pedagogical approach. While home schooling, i.e. education provided directly by parents, is a viable alternative, it is not easy to implement. Fortunately, the pedagogical landscape offers various interesting alternatives.
Why homeschooling is a 'complicated' choice
Thinking about the day-to-day life of many families, it's easy to imagine how difficult it is to reconcile the various activities of the day with homeschooling. It requires time, organisation, perseverance and, above all, patience. When children are with their peers in an environment outside the family, they tend to pay more attention and are more willing to get involved in the different activities. On the contrary, at home it is not always easy to involve them, or to find stimulating activities.
The cultural and pedagogical basis of parenting schools:
Although there are different pedagogical approaches, parenting schools have certain characteristics in common:
Desire for child-centred education as a unique and unrepeatable being
Need for an active relationship with the educator
Desire for experiential education, where doing becomes teaching
Need to be part of a small community dimension where values and expectations are shared
Desire to give more freedom to give space to exist
Desire for greater contact with nature
Education out of doors, the parental education of Atelier Cresco
Atelier Cresco's primary aim is to educate children to discover and get to know their inner selves. We believe in learning through direct experience, giving children guidance and then leaving them free to find their own way of doing certain activities.
The idea is to help children grow up aware, so that as adults they can act according to their own scale of values.
Atelier is made up of a staff that is primarily called upon to do a job of personal and group growth, so that the educator dedicated to teaching is his or her own first pupil.
This mission has led to our model of parental education within the pedagogical project "Educazione fuori Porta", currently dedicated to the 12m to 5 years age group.
